Mental Health Awareness Week at Metta Movement

This week from Monday 12th – Sunday 18th May is Mental Health Awareness Week, and this year its focus and theme is something that sits at the very heart of Metta Movement – ‘community’. The power of connection and belonging has never been more important, and we’re proud to be more than just a Pilates studio; we’re a sanctuary where minds and bodies flourish together.

Our little studio in Central Beckenham has always been built on the Buddhist principle of Metta – loving-kindness. This isn’t just a nice idea; it’s woven into every class, every interaction, and every movement we share. When you step onto a reformer or roll out your mat in a Pilates matwork session, you’re entering a space where judgment takes a back seat and support takes the wheel!

What makes our community special? It’s the knowing smiles between members who started their journey together in our beginner courses and the laughter that makes it all so much easier. It’s the gentle modifications our instructors offer, understanding that most of our members come with their own unique needs. It’s the shared victories when someone masters a movement they once thought impossible.

In our intimate classes of just four people, there’s no hiding in the back row – because there isn’t one!

Instead, there’s personal attention, genuine care, and a chance to truly connect. Our instructors – Teresa, Christian, Hirisa, Jemma, Amy, and Shauna – aren’t just teaching Pilates; they’re nurturing a space where everyone feels seen, supported, and celebrated.

Mental health and physical wellbeing are two sides of the same coin. When you join us for a class, you’re not just working your body; you’re part of a community that understands that some days are harder than others, that progress isn’t linear, and that showing up for yourself is an act of self-care worth celebrating.

Whether you’re a longtime member or considering your first class, know that you’re welcome here. In a world that often moves too fast, our little studio offers a pause – a place to breathe, move, and connect with others who understand that wellness is a journey best traveled together.

Here at Metta Movement, community isn’t just a theme for one week – it’s who we are, every single day.
